Lovely cosy pub in a quiet lane, with accommodation rooms. Stayed for one night and had an evening meal, breakfast and Sunday lunch there. Menu surprisingly varied and we were tempted before even getting there, so booked all meals straight away. Staff were all lovely and helpful, smiling, made us welcome and valued customers. A big bonus to us was the possibility to have an early breakfast on the Sunday as we had an early start - we usually have to miss out at other places who don't serve breakfast until later in the morning at weekends. Here in the restaurant at 7.02 and already eating at 7.06, perfect. Food was all lovely, with portion sizes just right for us, not gargantuan, not tiny, just right. Amazing gooseberry crumble! Also we were impressed by the vegetables on offer - for example veg served with the Sunday lunch, - sweet potato mash, red cabbage, mushy peas, potato mash, roast potato plus a little bowl of broc, cauliflower and peas. All were perfect and yummy, we love veg so this was really nice. Outside there are cute booths in a little yard which looks to be super nice in the summer. Car park can get busy at Sunday lunch times but can park outside. Bedroom was lovely, comfy bed, nice bathroom, clean, quiet. Highly recommended.
Total surprise. Found this place by accident while having a drive around the North Pennines. I never had such a delicious roast Sunday dinner and the portions! They're huge. Just what's needed after a damn good hike. Take note of where this place is, it's easy to not find it again! Hahaha.
